The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Human Science Research Council (HSRC) have jointly developed and launched a new policy-oriented information web-portal on children’s rights called the Policy Action Network of PAN: Children.
The knowledge hub has been designed to “provide high quality, timely information which can be used to inform decision-making and policy in practice in relation to children. Importantly, it will strengthen the dialogue between the generators and users of child-related evidence in order to build networks between researchers and policy-makers, as well as generate debate on key policy issues affecting children in South Africa”.
A number of topical policy guides on key child rights issues that highlight key policy gaps and concerns, lessons learned, case studies and guidelines for policy makers have been developed and uploaded to the site. The guides will be regularly updated and new ones added.
At present the following guides are available:
- Child poverty and inequality
- Children and HIV and AIDS
- Child participation
- Youth and unemployment
- Food and nutrition
Further guides on Social Protection, Child Protection, Early Childhood Development, and Child Survival will be added shortly.
