Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition of various forms of non-formal and informal learning that students may have acquired in the course of their lives or in participation in community activities outside formal places of learning. RPL may be used to access college or university, or it could be used by community workers or those currently employed as a means of acquiring credits or a professional certificate.

The current RPL policy replaces the earlier policy and aims to realise redress of past unfair discrimination in education, training and employment opportunities, to improve access to learning pathways, and to realise fair recognition of knowledge and skills.
